General Conference

General Conference isn't always so easy for me. Growing up, my family would watch it like every other family in the church. We'd watch it religiously. About six years ago, my sister came out to me as someone who was attracted to women. Since then, my life has been a bit of a roller coaster. My family has struggled with their testimonies, how they fit in at church, and how we should be listening to the prophets. Every six months I watch my family struggle with their feelings and their testimonies when it comes to listening to the prophets of God.

So, when President Uchtdorf got up and spoke during the Saturday morning session about "A Yearning for Home", it really hit me. He told the story of Bobbi the Wonder Dog and how the dog was left across the country and yet somehow made it home to his family months later. He compared that instance with our relationship to our Heavenly Parents. We all have this sense of home and we yearn for it so badly.

I think of that often. How nice would it be to be back with Heavenly Father and Mother, just talking to them about my life and how it turned out. I yearn for the time when I can ask them all the questions I had regarding my faith, my testimony, my family, the situation I mentioned before. I wish I could just talk to both of them and get their perspective. I wish they could tell me word for word on what I should do with my life. That'd be nice, right?

  1. A word for word guide would be super helpful!! Sounds like you're doing ok without one though. Thanks for sharing, General Conference is sometimes difficult for a lot of us.

  2. My family sometimes struggles to agree with what prophets and apostles say too. My youngest brother JUST took off on a mission, and he was at the MTC for this last conference. It was the first time he didn't fall asleep! We were all proud and encouraged to also not fall asleep. Next step is for us to accept the principles shared at Conference with an open heart. I get you!

  3. Elder Ballard's latest devotional at BYU and Face to Face was really inspiring! It helped me answer difficult questions I and people close to me have. It left me feeling hopeful and encouraged. Here's the link to the Face to Face:
