Why everyone should be a Graphic Design major
Graphic design hasn’t always been my passion. When I started
school, I wanted to be an architect and design temples for the Church. What
changed my mind? A lot of things actually, but the main one is that I found graphic
design and it was FUN. (If you’re not having fun in your major you need to
change STAT.)
My classes may be three hours each, but I'm learning about how different companies brand, about different typefaces, and even how art has changed the world through the ages. I enjoy my classes. I enjoy the laid back, hip teachers who believe that tests shouldn't be stressful, written exams, but projects that showcase creativity and thinking. Learning has been an adventure and I enjoy going to my classes are learning new things.
I enjoy my major because I'm learning how to think differently and openly. I'm learning how to think outside the box while staying within it's limits. What I love about design is that it is not just what it looks like or feels like, but how things work. Great design is problem solving. One of the greatest designers of all time, Saul Bass, said that "design is thinking made visual". Design isn't just a pretty face on a brand or a good looking thank you card. Design is a thinking process that when executed well, turns into visual information.

Currently, I’m really grateful for the medical students too who decided not to be graphic design majors. But you make valid points. It is more fun.
